this has been doing the rounds, but its still pretty damn impressive. Watch it in fullscreen.
Made by Uruguayan filmmaker Fede Alvarez apparently it only cost $300 to make.

the making of hungry beast
I've worked on other tv shows before, but Hungry Beast is the first one I got to work on from scratch. So far, the process has been strange, scary, frustrating but mostly a fuckload of fun. Throughout it all, I've been irritating everyone by taking photos with my iPhone.
So if you've ever wondered what it's like to make a tv show... welcome to:
Marc's iPhotographic History of Hungry Beast
19 of us were chosen from around Australia but before we could make the show we had 1 month of training/planning with lots of fancy people inc. ABC Overlord Mark Scott and of course our bosses Andy Nehl & Andrew Denton.
So, on July 20 we descended upon a cavernous rehearsal space at ABC Ultimo:

First order of business: we needed a name.
Between the lot of us... we came up with 500+ contenders.

After much deliberation these were our finalists:
And down below is all of us standing around realising that none of those were going to work:
On the upside, the shortlist did mean that Andrew et al could tear down the 500 names - a cathartic moment for all.
So we brainstormed some more...
Everytime someone suggested a new name we were like small children who'd just found shiny new playthings. We'd abandon the old ones instantly and run with the new one... which is eventually how we landed on this...
Okay, name sorted. But then there was... um... everything else. So we went into production...

Buried deep underneath the ABC TV studios this picture below has been stuck to a wall.

Down below you can see us shooting those mysterious super slo-mo promos for the show
But the really fun part was shooting the opening titles:

Then our first look at the Hungry Beast studio set which is made entirely out of recycled electronics:

If you look closely up the back of the set there's this amazingly disturbing red eye made out of circuits and keyboards. fuckn amazing.

And just before we started shooting the Pilot, I took this...
Oh and this is my first grey hair

mickey mouse: edgy, in your face
Disney is planning to reinvent Mickey Mouse to make him darker and more edgy. As part of a new video game (Epic Mickey) & broader rethink on the $5 Billion Mouse they're gonna make him "cunning and cantankerous" which I believe is code for "He'll be a tool" The video game will apparently involve Mickey wandering Mad-Max style through some dystopian future complete with a disemboweled robotic duck named Donald.
Hello, nightsweats.
See, they should be embracing the lessons learnt from Disney's younger, more profitable stars like Like Miley Look-Pa-I-Gots-Me-One-Of-Those-Them-Thar-Webcams Cyrus and High School Musical's Vanessa Im-Innocent-In-a-LOOK-AT-MY-BOOBIES-Kinda-
Hey, Mini Mouse has already done it

why humans get lost
Australia is a big place and we find all sorts of novel ways to get lost here - from Victorian minster Tim Holding, to Azaria Chamberlain, and of course there’s British backpacker Jamie Neale, who just announced he would be returning to Australia (and bringing his GPS with him) But why DO humans always get lost? Well myself and Lewis Hobba decided to investigate. The result was 3 minutes of weird.
and don't forget there's more Hungry Beast this Wednesday night at 9pm on ABC1 and anytime online
